Collaboration International Education Centre

The International Education Centre (IEC) is the linking pin between the school environment and the world. Its objectives are to enable students from Rotterdam Business School (RBS) and its partner universities to broaden their horizons, to develop a global outlook on the (business) world and to contribute to their employability. The IEC enables the development and implementation of internationalisation-at-home and abroad initiatives, such as exchange programmes, international classrooms, projects, international weeks and many other activities.

Whilst navigating in this interconnected world, we make sure to excel, learn and grow in the following four key themes:

• Purpose Economy: We create awareness of the importance of new economic thinking for the realisation of a future-proof world.
• Circular Economy: As a Business School, we contribute to the development of circular (business) models and value chains for the working field.
• Digital Economy: We strengthen and develop digital competencies to accelerate the transformation to a new economy.
• Leadership: The transition to a future-proof economy necessitates organisations to develop new leadership and the capacity to change.

We want to make an impact. That is why we put the four key themes at the heart of our teaching and research. This starts with awareness of the importance of new economic thinking.

Together we develop new value models, strengthen competencies that support and drive transformation,  and increase our agility. By living our values and vision, we lead innovations in education, the (Rotterdam) professional field and society: Let's change the face of business!

Over the years as a university, we have developed a large academic network of over 300 partner universities from all over the world. These academic collaborations give our students the chance to experience an exchange abroad and therefore enrich their study degree with an international perspective. We aim to offer an inclusive international opportunity to all our students to broaden their horizon.

We host and organise many international events, in which lecturers from our university and partner universities exchange knowledge, conduct benchmarks, give guest lectures and participate in online projects and learning programmes.

Our collaborations with leading educational institutions from across the world allow us to obtain an outstanding network of exchange, in which Rotterdam students study abroad, and students from partner universities join the Rotterdam Business School. No imaginary exercises, but concrete projects, research questions and societal demands that need solutions. Students at Rotterdam Business School are learning by doing. 

In The Netherlands, each university of applied sciences combines education and research. Research Centre Business Innovation is the research partner of Rotterdam Business School. The centre conducts applied research on the question of how organisations in general and SMEs in particular can prepare for the future. It’s all about social innovation. Like Rotterdam Business School, the Research Centre Business Innovation also focuses on purpose economy, circular economy, digital economy, and leadership.

Examples of projects are servitisation in manufacturing companies, circular business models, soft controls, organisational learning and data monetisation. The results are published in articles, presented in videos, applied in workshops, and translated into cases. In this way, the Research Centre serves three groups of clients: education, business community and academics. The centre employs eight professors, eight senior researchers and seven supporting staff.
