Innovations in elderly care earn students a Future Makers Award

How can we ensure that elderly care remains humane, affordable, and appealing to care professionals? Four students from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences joined forces with care organisations, researchers, care providers, and care home residents to find the answer. Their contribution to the 'Innovate at Home' project earned them the Future Makers Award in the Vibrant Community category.

How do you measure changes in the brain that are so small you can barely see them? Students from the Biology and Medical Laboratory Research (BML) programme teamed up with researchers from Erasmus MC at the HR Data lab EAS to find the answer. With their project ‘Mouse Brain Analysis: Small Brain, Big Impact!’, they have won the Future Makers Award in the Smart & Social City category.

Future Makers Award for Urban Mining project

How can valuable metals be recovered from electronic waste? Students at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences are finding out in the Urban Mining Relay Project. By combining robotics, electrical engineering and chemistry, they are developing methods to reuse materials from printed circuit boards. This earned students the Future Makers Award in the Future-Proof Economy category this year.
