Hanging Out

Helping older and disabled people live at home longer

Publication date: 01 November 2010

Hanging Out is a project, organised by and in servitude of the community, to help elderly people in Rotterdam live longer independently.

Show:
  • In 2013, elderly people entered the programme, neighbourhood photos were taken and the 'Spils' received education and coaching for their own transition process. Description of methodology and the final competencies of the 'Spils' were made available in 2013. A toolbox (in Dutch) was also assembled to assist interested persons in developing their own 'Hanging Out' approach in settings outside Rotterdam.
  • In 2014, the 'Hanging Out' project continues to run for another year in four neighbourhoods, subsidised by the NZA. The 'Spils' are part of neighbourhood teams that were initiated by the municipality of Rotterdam and are trying to further integrate the 'Hanging Out'-approach into the neighbourhood teams' procedures. The evaluation study will be finished in the second half of 2014.
