    Self-management & Participation Lab

    SPIL is a collaborative research program that aims to improve (and support) self-management and social participation of adolescents with chronic conditions in their transition to adulthood. Ultimately, the goal is that the adolescent is able to stand on his own two feet and will be able to manage his/her disease, participate in daily life and exercise control over it.

    SPIL stands for Self-management & Participation Innovation Lab, a collaborative research program of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Research Centre Innovations in Care) and the Erasmus Medical Centre (Sophia Children's Hospital and Dept. of Rehabilitation Medicine / TransitieNet) that aims to improve (and support) self-management and social participation of adolescents with chronic conditions in their transition to adulthood. Ultimately, the goal is that the adolescent is able to stand on his own two feet and will be able to manage his/her disease, participate in daily life and exercise control over it.

    SPIL was started on the 1st of September in 2011, and is funded for four years. The project is part of NURSE-CC research programme (NUrsing Research into Self-management and Empowerment in Chronic Care).
