    Everybody on Board II

    Care and the creative sector

    Publication date: 01 May 2014

The creative sector’s manner of working and thinking holds great potential for innovation in health care. The cooperation between these sectors, however, is scarcely out of the egg; parties don't find each other or don't know the value of each other's manner of working and reasoning. Everybody on Board II investigates the possibilities for crossovers between the creative sector and health care. Creative innovation is deployed here to make a contribution to the approach of complex social issues.

    Introduction

Both on a local and national level, health care is facing complex social challenges: Continuously rising costs of health care, lagging participation and social inclusion of vulnerable groups of people but also extramuralisation, combined with a shift from secondary to primary care. Consequently, the problems that care professionals are facing are becoming more complicated and the demand for the qualitative improvement of health care is growing.

The creative sector’s working and thinking methods hold great promise when it comes to combatting the outlined difficulties now and in the future. The creative innovative power that arises from crossovers between the creative sector and health care draws attention nationally and internationally as clearly shown by the Create Health programme, initiated from the knowledge and innovation network CLICKNL. The cooperation between health care and the creative sector, however, has hardly emerged; parties don't find each other or don't know the value of each other's methods.

Everybody on Board II investigates the possibilities of crossovers between the creative sector and health care, both within and outside RUAS. Creative innovation is deployed here to make a contribution to the approach of complex social issues.

    Project description

Everybody on board II is an initiative of the RUAS Research Centre Innovations in Care involving applied research professors, teachers, researchers and RUAS students and partners from the creative sector and health care. The central aim is to create crossovers between the creative sector and health care, to develop projects for students and to establish a more intensive cooperation between education, research centres of RUAS and the professional field. Everybody on Board II is a sequel to Everybody on Board I, which studied the contributions of creative entrepreneurs to tackling deprivation problems in London and Rotterdam.

    Consortium

    Application RAAK-SME

Part of the Everybody on Board II project is the RAAK-SME research proposal ‘Social inclusion: a new way of (design) thinking?!’, which was initiated by the Research Centre of Innovations in Care and has been written in cooperation with the Research Centre of Creating 010.

For this study, a consortium including creative SMEs and care institutions has been formed. This consortium aspires to enable creative SMEs to make innovative contributions to the approach of complex social issues. This is effectuated in three partial projects, within which the creative SMEs, together with professionals in health care, their target groups, teachers and students of RUAS, other knowledge institutes and representatives of the local government, use Design Thinking in order to develop innovative concepts. The umbrella theme is to enhance the participation and social inclusion of vulnerable groups of especially people with psychiatric or mental impairments, people with dementia and their informal carers, and people with a low social-economic status in a multicultural neighbourhood.
