    Student programme

    March 22th till March 28th 2020

This student conference is part of the Annual conference organised by COHEHRE (Consortium on Higher Education within Health Care and Rehabilitation). The network connects universities in the field of health care, rehabilitation and social work, and promotes interprofessional cooperation.

We welcome 100 students and 10 (inter)national teachers during the programme.

The organization of the course consists of two modules. The expected outcomes of preparatory assignments (module 1), based on distance learning, result in a 5-day intensive program (module 2) with activities taking place in a multi-professional and multicultural context.

This programme offers a unique opportunity for students to meet with fellow students and teaching staff from different countries and professional backgrounds to listen, discuss and debate the issues around inclusion of the most vulnerable group of people in our societies.

We hope that participation in this course will turn out to be an exciting learning experience for students and will challenge their professional and personal development!

    This weeks programme

As can be seen in the schedule below, this is an intensive, educational week.

Students work in small groups of students, from different nationalities and different disciplines, to get the best learning outcome. Together they'll focus on one (vulnerable) target group, in Rotterdam. General information about the theme Diversity and Social Inclusion is given during the plenary sessions, specific input on the target groups, are given during the 'Meet the Field' sessions and the workshops.

The final presentation is a 'Human Library'

In a society filled with prejudice and intolerance towards various groups, the Human Library mission is to bridge the gap between different social and ethnic groups and to allow dialogue and comprehension. Through this informal and laid-back way of bringing people together, the Human Library allows those who may have experienced segregation and prejudice to have the chance to talk to people they may feel identified with. The main goal of the Human Library consisted of three main objectives; to bring different social and ethnical groups of society together, to challenge (and overcome) prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination in society, and to learn, educate, and change attitudes. The objective of this evaluation study is to see if, with regard to mission and vision, the goals of the event were reached (Library, Meet your prejudice, 2015).

    Social activities

After all the work, there is also enough time for social activities, to get to know each other and the beautiful city of Rotterdam. For the cultural diner on Monday, we invite students to share their culture, by bringing a typical snack from their country. Next to that, we provide them with a typical Dutch meal. On Thursday night, there is some free time, with an opportunity to explore the nightlife of Rotterdam.
