Private Funds

If you are a student and at some time during your studies you have insufficient finances, you can, in some cases, appeal to private funds. Private funds belong to organisations that support students who cannot make ends meet with their student finance or other sources of income.

When are you eligible?

You will be considered once you are not (any longer) eligible for other funds, such as a DUO service or the Profiling fund. In addition, there are several conditions, depending on your situation:

1. You are about to go abroad on an exchange or internship for your study programme .

Conditions are: too little budget and you have already fully made use of your student finance or other sources of income.

Note: you must submit your application several months before your departure.

2. You have financial problems due to special circumstances.

Conditions are: too little budget and you have already fully made use of your student finance or other sources of income. In addition, there have to be special circumstances involved, such as illness, special family circumstances, or you are a studying parent.

The application

The student counsellor can you help you with the assessment of the situation, and with the application. Funding organisations will expect the following from you:

  • A motivation letter
  • A budget
  • Your CV
  • An overview of your study results (they expect the prospect of a diploma).
  • Overview of your DUO loan
  • Reference letter (for example, from a teacher)
  • Supporting statement of a student counsellor.
