(Senior) Educational Advisor at Willem the Kooning Academy (0.7 fte)

Are you passionate about arts education? We are looking for an independent educational expert to help us maintain high quality art education and to advise on educational changes in the international context of arts, design and performance.

If you start with us, you will become part of the Education Quality and Personnel department (OKP), one of the four staff services within the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (RUAS). At OKP, about 100 colleagues work on themes in the field of educational science, quality assurance, HRD, HRM and team and organizational development.

For this specific vacancy you will be deployed locally at the Willem the Kooning Academy (WdK). You provide educational advice to the director, managers and teachers. You also cooperate with the Quality Assurance officers and the Education Station of the Academy. The Education Station is a place for sharing and exchanging ideas and expertise on (art) education between all members of the learning community.

Relevant educational themes in the coming period are assessment; hybrid and blended education; transformative education; 3rd cycle education; diversity and inclusivity; well-being of students and staff; and preparing for accreditations of bachelor and master programs.

About the Willem the Kooning Academy

The Willem de Kooning Academy is one of the institutes of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (WdKA/RUAS). It offers a variety of bachelor and master programmes in the field of visual culture, art, design, education in arts, and leisure management. The curriculum of the Willem de Kooning Academy is founded on an interdisciplinary ethos through the Autonomous, Social and Commercial Practices. The Majors are the entry point of study for all Bachelor students; the Practices of the interdisciplinary research contexts in the second half of the Bachelor programs; and the unique Stations (advanced workshops focused on Research through Making) complete the three pillars of the bachelor courses of the institute.

The Willem the Kooning Academy and Codarts Rotterdam are currently investigating the possibility of merging. If the merger goes ahead, you will be given the opportunity to become part of the new art institute.

Profile of applicant

The WdK is looking for an enthusiastic, communicative educational expert. A good command of both Dutch and English language (orally and in writing) is important. Experience in the field of arts and performance is an advantage. If you have no experience in the field, you are willing to open up to and delve into the specific educational principles in this domain. You are expected to take initiative and operate independently on designated tasks, but also to communicate and cooperate effectively with colleagues and students.

Job requirements

  • University degree;
  • Solid knowledge in the field of pedagogy and didactics;
  • Experience in developing educational programs;
  • Affinity with the field of arts and performance;
  • Experience with accreditations in higher education;
  • Process skills such as a development-oriented approach and reflective capacity;
  • You can identify, analyse and convert internal and external developments into activities;
  • You are organization sensitive and flexible;
  • You have excellent communication skills (both oral and written) that you adapt to different target groups
  • EU/ECC work authorization;
  • A good command of verbal and written English and Dutch.


The Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences offers you:

  • a one-year contract. Depending on your education and experience, you will be classified between a minimum of € 3,881,09 and a maximum of € 5,332,48 gross per month (scale 11) for full-time employment, excluding 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
